This is the website of academic and filmmaker James Newton.
I am a film and media academic and lecturer at the University of Kent.
My research interests include the relationship between form and content, anarchism in popular culture, and exploitation and cult cinema. I am the author of the monographs The Anarchist Cinema (Intellect, 2019) and The Mad Max Effect (Bloomsbury 2021).
My film and video practice incorporates both narrative and experimental work, and has been screened in galleries and at festivals. My feature film, Black Lizard Tales, will be out on Blu-ray and VOD in 2022, available through Darkside Releasing.
